OUR HISTORY

Lyon Construction was founded by James W. Lyon (Wally) in 1994 initially focusing on single family home renovations. In the year 2000, Wally shifted that focus away from the residential construction market to the commercial construction market, specifically stadium construction. Wally was very gifted in many facets of construction and saw an opportunity to use his vast skills in this type of specialty construction. To this day, the company continues to perform quality projects in the stadium market.

Today, Lyon Construction is owned and managed by AJ Lyon. AJ took over the business after his father Wally passed away. He spent most of his childhood in the passenger seat of his father's work truck driving from job to job exploring his father's jobsites and witnessing the work being performed. As an adolescent AJ became more involved in the business, starting out as a laborer in the field and moving up the ranks to help his father manage the company. In 2006, AJ joined the Army and was deployed to Iraq with the 3rd Armored Calvary Regiment in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. In 2010, AJ grew very interested in business and markets and decided to leave the Army and pursue a career in business. AJ was accepted into the Robert H Smith School of Business at the University of Maryland where he received a bachelor's degree in accounting and a bachelor's degree in finance. Following school, AJ became a banker, underwriting real estate and business loans.

Due to the sudden passing away of AJ's father Wally, AJ had to make a decision to close the business or take it over. AJ felt he could not see his father's business close after all of his father's life's hard work was poured into the company. AJ decided to leave his career as a banker and take over the family business. Armed with the business knowledge he gained through school and banking along with the construction knowledge he had obtained from his dad through the years, he was able to manage and lead the company through that tough time. Since then, he has successfully expanded the company into other markets.
